RURAL HOUSEHOLDS’ FOOD INSECURITY AND COPING STRATEGIES DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA

Food insecurity is a challenge in developing countries, especially the rural areas of Nigeria. It remains global and continues to be major public policy Nigeria other nations. Despite these, COVID-19 set posed serious threat food system security globally. This study, therefore, assessed level among farming households how they cope with situation during pandemic. Data for study were collected primarily from 200 use questionnaires analysed using descriptive statistics, index Likert scale. The findings showed that was very high pandemic as 69.5% insecure concentration those large household size. widely adopted coping strategies eating less expensive (=2.7), reducing rational consumption (=2.68), allowing children eat first (=2.56), engaging additional small scale productivity activities (=2.27), skipping meal within day (=2.26), buying on credit (=2.05) borrowing money buy (=2.01). recommends effective urgent measures which will support households’ availability boost their status. Also, enlightenment important modern family planning status needed.
